World No Tobacco Day
Smoking and chewing tobacco is injurious to health is a very popular slogan, but does this have helped anyone stop it! We are aware that tobacco is tough addiction to withdraw. it is one of the most difficult things that you will want to quit. Tobacco and cigarette smoking is one of the leading causes of death. Not smoking a single cigarette in your life may not prevent you from the many diseases that a smoker could get. Anyone who is around a smoker could be exposed to second-hand smoke in the form of passive smoking causing cough, headache, sore throat, eye and nasal irritation in the short-term. Prolonged exposure can lead to lung cancer, heart disease, stroke etc. In conjunction with World No Tobacco Day it is worth highlighting the hard facts that “Tobacco is killing us and our planet”.
Millions of trees are being cut every year to make cigarettes and tonnes of carbon dioxide released into the air during the process of making cigarettes, resulting in rise of global temperatures and billion litres of water are used to manufacture cigarettes. All these are adding unnecessary pressure to our planet’s already scarce resources and fragile ecosystems Annually, there are 6 trillion cigarettes consumed and 4.5 trillion of them being discarded worldwide. The cigarette, once lit up pollutes our air, environment, and land in the form of non-biodegradable butts even long after it has been stubbed out. Roughly 8 million people die from tobacco-related ailments every year. And that number is projected to rise to over in the coming days harming human health, through the cultivation, production, distribution, consumption, and post-consumer waste.
