World Cancer Survivors Day

There is still hope.! "living with or beyond cancer" Today we celebrate those who fought the good fight and survived their battle with cancer. It’s also an opportunity to show the world that there are good number of cancer survivors, and to bring positivity and hope among people who are still battling one. Celebration for those battled cancer and survived, but an inspiration for those recently diagnosed There is nothing fair about cancer, As It doesn’t distinguish between young and old, and male or female, it just occurs. Certain factors like obesity, alcohol abuse, smoking, environmental pollutants or family history could contribute to cancer risk. And when it happens, Cancer can change the way a person looks at oneself and also people around them and life in general. Those diagnosed with cancer experiencing different phases of emotions during their course of the treatment. These phases are being in denial, followed by expressing anger with themselves, God, and others, followed by a phase of bargaining, depression and finally acceptance of the reality. At this point the person genuinely comes terms in reality and adapting their life accordingly.

A cancer survivor can be anyone living with the history of Cancer- from diagnosis through rest of their lives. Cancer survivors requires lot of guts, self-confidence, and more importantly unwavering support of near and dear ones, Positivity and spirituality to fight the disease-off besides the treatment. It is a known fact that the life ahead of survival is not very smooth, it is always an uncertain journey with challenges of chemotherapy, loss of physical beauty, psychosocial & emotional struggle. So whoever emerges as a winner from this battle learns to appreciate & value life, cherish small joys & pleasures. People who survive cancer continue living life with a fear of re-occurrence. Cancer is terrifying, and the fight is real for ones battling. Survivors don’t always have time to process everything while they are going through diagnosis and treatment because everything moves so quickly. Cancer patients live with the mentality of just getting through it, because there’s no other options available due to the stigma attached with the disease. Once treatment has ended, there are various other post-treatment stress which many survivors go through. Cancer survivors often fear that every symptom they experience is a sign that the cancer has returned. Dealing with this kind of fear on a daily basis can be very difficult, and it’s important to share these issues of life post cancer with your doctor or other people who know what you’re going through. Cancer has long lasting physical, emotional and psychological scars. Hence giving cancer survivors the time they need to heal to get back to their lives. Surviving cancer is a tremendous accomplishment, and many who battle the disease are not so lucky. The chances of survival and the life expectancy has increased over the years due to the advanced treatment available, but the burden of Cancer cases are increasing too. However, there is no guarantee against this particular disease. Being a cancer survivor starts at diagnosis, and early detection is the key. If detected early the chances of survivorship Increases drastically and also the morbidities associated with the treatment is reduced.
